Sports Testimonials

Atlanta Falcons NFL Football

"Jon's book, The Energy Bus, and talk to our team have been very useful tools in helping us build a positive team and culture where our players overcome negativity and challenges to perform at their highest potential."
-Mike Smith, Head Coach

Pittsburgh Pirates

"Jon Gordon adds value to championship cultures in many ways. Whether you're looking for a road map of what excellence looks like or want a new, fresh perspective to reinforce championship values, Jon delivers in a variety of ways. His ideas challenge you to think and act like a champion. We have used thoughts from his blog as great reminders and his books have become required reading for many of us. And then you get the man in front of a group of people - and he lives out his message, modeling the values he preaches."
-Kyle Stark, Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Development

Boston Celtics Basketball

"The Energy Bus is more than a book. It is a great tool for building a winning team. Every team or person, who wants to be a champion, will face adversity. There are "Energy Vampires" on every team. I use this book as a reference to assist me in turning a negative into a positive."
-Doc Rivers, Head Coach

University of Kentucky

"After reading The Energy Bus on the plane, I decided there were a few things I wanted to share with my team from the book. The biggest thing I took out of the book was leading from the heart, which I spoke to our team about. There is emotion in what we do. It's not just about numbers and stick figures. This is about people and doing this together. I told them, for us right now, this is a bunch of young guys coming together. We've got to get rid of the anxiety and stay in the moment. When there is adversity, we have to look at it as a learning opportunity. If you're not shooting the ball well, it's an opportunity to work on your shot; it's not some big crisis to get bent out of shape about. The book has 10 rules for approaching life and work with the kind of positive, forward thinking that leads us to true accomplishment. We got them the book and I told them I want them to read it. We're going to talk about it more once they get through it."
-John Calipari, Head Basketball Coach

NBA Rookie of the Year

"Jon Gordon's book Training Camp inspired me to push through obstacles, sacrifice things for the better and cherish relationships. Also taught me to value each day and opportunity."
-Damian Lillard, NBA Rookie of the Year

Clemson University

"I am thankful for having your wonderful books in my life! My team and staff are better because of The Energy Bus! Thank you so very much for making a huge impact in my life and on our program."
-Leslie R. Hasselbach Adams, Head Diving Coach

University of Notre Dame

"Last year when I took over the Notre Dame women's lacrosse program I knew the team's culture had to change for us to see success. After a brutal fall we decided to have a book assignment during the winter break. After some research we found The Energy Bus to send the perfect message to our team. We were interested in developing a new approach to the way we did things. There was too much sarcasm and competition amongst the team. We wanted to approach the season with enthusiasm, positive energy and accountability. We wanted to be inclusive and embrace each person in our program since everyone affiliated had one common goal for our team. Enjoy the journey and win games! The December read was imperative to our team's success. Each member of our team including staff printed out their ticket and brought it to the first team meeting for preseason. We all committed to bringing enthusiasm and positive energy to everything we did. Even when we faced adversity we came back to the book and remembered Joy and all the rules/lessons she taught her passengers. We became accountable to ourselves and each other. Ultimately, we found a renewed sense of purpose in what we were doing. In turn, we were having fun and building excitement around our lacrosse program. This year we still go back to last season and talk about no energy vampires. That always gets a good laugh! More importantly some of the "rules" are carrying over to this year's team leaders as the embrace the process of becoming a positive team with great enthusiasm."
-Christine Halfpenny, Head Women's Lacrosse Coach

Nebraska

"We have used many books with our TEAM in my 22 years at Nebraska, but none have come close to having the ongoing and positive impact on our TEAM as The Energy Bus. We were strengthened and nourished from the inside out by the constant positive message, and the consistent love based approach to living each day. The Energy Bus enlivened in us all a more positive spirit and outlook. Our TEAM truly LOVED OUR PASSENGERS on the Big Red Bus; and we are so grateful for Jon Gordon's inspiration in writing The Energy Bus, and sharing it with all of us."
-Rhonda Revelle, Nebraska Softball Coach

Northwestern Women's Lacrosse

"The Energy Bus is a game changer that I could not put down. It is so easy to get distracted by what everybody else is doing and saying that we forget who controls OUR journey. The Energy Bus reminds us that we drive our BUS and that we are responsible for the road that we are traveling on. Our main goal at Northwestern is to empower young women to make a positive difference in the world. The Energy Bus will either get you started or get you re-started on this mission."
-Kelly Amonte Hiller, Head Coach

Coaching U

"As a Basketball Coach for 40 years, I strived to maximize the potential of individual players and teams. It sounds easy...but it's really difficult to do. Jon Gordon has given a Game Plan with The Energy Bus. He has taken me to a New Level in Coaching, Life, and Business. Get a ticket and jump on the Bus with both feet!"
-Brendan Suhr, Long time NBA Coach and Co-founder of Coaching U. Live.

-Dabo Swinney, Head Coach

-Mack Brown, Head Coach

-Chad Knaus, NASCAR Champion Crew Chief for Jimmie Johnson

Arizona State Women's Basketball

"I am always reading to find ways to improve myself and my athletes. I have used the principles from Jon Gordon's books The Energy Bus, The No Complaining Rule and Training Camp to teach our Arizona State University players and the USA teams I coached to enjoy the process and maximize their success. These books have helped create the foundation for our team to build positive, healthy relationships, to develop individual toughness, and a Championship culture. I have even had my 10 year old son read them and he is anxiously awaiting his next Jon Gordon book. I have learned and taken so much from John Maxwell and Ken Blanchard over the years and now Jon Gordon is my new favorite author!"
-Charli Turner Thorne, Head Coach
